Year 6 Team Building Challenge

At the end of this Term we took part in a Year 6 Team building challenge in the Auditorium.  We had to work together to build a bridge that was wide enough for a ball to pass through and strong enough to hold a dictionary.

E-mail To Kings School

Dear Sam,

Our names are Macu, Jeffery, Joshua and Ethan.  We are in Room 21’s All Boys Class at Elm Park Primary.

Thank you for sending us your letter about pollution.  We really enjoyed reading your letter and found it really interesting. We learned about the hole in the Ozone Layer above New Zealand.  Now we realise that we need to wear lots more sunscreen than what we normally wear.

In Room 21, we have been learning about soils. We were learning about soil because the United Nations declared 2015 “The International Year Of Soils”.  Did you know that soils are one of the four natural elements we need to survive? Without soils we would not be able to survive.

There are three main types of soil and they are sand, silt and clay.  Soils are made up of 45% minerals, 50% pore space and 5% organic matter (dead leaves and plants).

Soils have many different uses other than just growing food. They help to regulate the Earth’s climate by storing carbon in it.  Soil helps suck in water so we don’t have lots of major flooding. They are the key to our agricultural life.  Lastly, soils are used to make 60% of our cancer drugs!

Thank you for reading our letter.  We hope that you have learned a lot about soils from us. So remember to not take soils for granted.

Yours Sincerely.

Macu, Jeffery, Joshua and Ethan

About The Artist

        Learning Reflection

This term we have been learning how to write in the first person. I am proud of finishing this task on time because I usually take a while to finish my work It can be tricky to to remember to write he or him instead of I and me. I liked leaning this new way of writing because it was a hard challenge. If I am stuck I can ask my friends for help. The next step for me might be to write stories in the third person.
